Testing
The Montessori educational philosophy does not heavily invest in formal testing and assessments. However, we value baseline assessments as well as observational data gathering. In the first few weeks of school, our teachers focus heavily on setting up the class culture, creating community norms that all can buy into, laying the foundation for healthy school-based relationships and collaborations, and establishing predictable routines and expectations. All of this work will allow students to navigate their day at school with freedom paired with a sense of responsibility. Through this work, our educators assess where each student is.
That said, the state of North Carolina requires several specific assessments for various grade levels during the course of the year, including BOGs, EOGs, and mClass reading assessments.
